Joyce Ngoya Tshiyoyo
Joyce Tshiyoyo is a Land Use Planner for the EMRPC. She started this role in September, of 2023. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Social Science in Conflict Studies and Human Rights from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Queen’s University. Her passion for planning stemmed from a desire to work with communities by creating plans to reflect how they can improve their environment. She’s always had a passion for advocacy and has been involved in numerous community groups and organizations that work towards equity for racialized and marginalized people.
Ms. Tshiyoyo has a few years of working experience for the federal and local government and NGOs. Her first working experience was being a Research Assistant for KAIRO Canada on Indigenous History implementation across Canada. She then went on to work as a Research Assistant (intern) for Indigenous Service Canada, which led to other federal government opportunities. She’s worked for Employment and Social Development Canada as a Junior Analyst and contracted as a Junior Business Analyst. Ms. Tshiyoyo wrote work reports on COVID-19 causing high unemployment, conducted performance measurement on government programs and participated in workshops on Indigenous community development.
Joyce Tshiyoyo continues to learn more about the marine areas and land, work with the Crees and create a land use plan which reflects Cree values and knowledge. In her past time, she spends time with her friends and family, while focusing on her creative work.
